Heartfeldt Forest

Connecting music and environmental restoration

Project overview

In Spring 2020, we embarked on a unique endeavour that merged our love for music with our commitment to protecting the environment. Through streaming Heartfeldt Releases, supporters like you contributed to our project to plant trees in the Costa Rican Rainforest. This was made possible through our partnership with Community Carbon Trees, an exceptional Costa Rican organisation dedicated to planting biodiverse tropical forests.

Why trees matter

Trees are vital to life on Earth. They purify the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitats for over 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Beyond their environmental benefits, trees prevent soil erosion, protect against flooding, and offer economic value through resources like timber, wood, fruits, and raw materials. Forests are not just ecosystems; they are lifelines for countless species, including humans.

The challenge of deforestation

Despite the incredible benefits of trees, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate, primarily driven by agricultural expansion. This loss of forests threatens biodiversity, disrupts ecosystems, and compromises our quality of life. Addressing deforestation is critical to ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

Community Carbon Trees

To combat deforestation, we partnered with Community Carbon Trees, an organisation that empowers local communities in the region of San Juan de Dios, Costa Rica. This partnership supports teams of local men and women who plant, maintain, and nurture tropical trees for a minimum of four years. These efforts are complemented by long-term collaborations with farmers, who continue to care for the trees for an additional 21 years. By fostering environmental stewardship and social transformation, this initiative creates lasting change for the planet and the communities involved.

Why Costa Rica?

Costa Rica is a global leader in sustainability and environmental conservation. Approximately 99% of the country’s energy comes from renewable resources, and it is on track to becoming carbon neutral. Since abolishing its army in the late 1940s, Costa Rica has redirected significant resources toward education, healthcare, hydropower development, national park preservation, and reversing deforestation. Additionally, Costa Rica's tropical climate, located within 10° of the equator, enables year-round tree growth, enhancing carbon sequestration rates and biodiversity restoration.

Result

Thanks to the collective participation of supporters worldwide, we successfully planted 2,064 trees in the Costa Rican Rainforest—a remarkable achievement! These trees will:

  • Filter the air and sequester carbon.
  • Purify water sources and safeguard soil.
  • Provide habitats for countless animals.
